Connecting to Robinson & Robinson DB

 

Important!!!


Only one person can do editing of MS Access database, so if the database is open for editing you will be able to see it in the read only mode.

Please remember to close the Database before exiting the Remote Desktop!!!


Please Log of instead of just closing the remote desktop



Here are instructions how to connect to Windows Server 2008 which hosts Robinson and Robinson Databases.

 

Connecting from Windows

1. Start application (Remote Desktop Connection)

Remote desktop Connection is installed by default on Windows. From the start menu type Remote Desktop Connection and select the application:

 

2. Configure connection (Remote Desktop Connection)

 Enter the server address: appliedresearch.sheridanc.on.ca

Your Sheridan Id

and domain name: SHERNET

 Optionally expand Options (bottom, left corner), set and save General and Display tabs.

Click Connect. Your Sheridan password is expected.

Databases are located in the C: drive:  C:\SheridanResearchDatabases\Databases, there should be also a shortcut on your desktop (Databases).

 

 

Connecting from Mac

From Mac you can use free Remote Desktop Client  which might be already installed on your Mac with MS Office.(Mac installation file also in the Dropbox/Research/RemoteDesktop-Mac). Install application by right clicking and choosing install (you might see error message if you do it other way)

1. Start application (Remote Desktop Connection)

From the Launchpad:

2. Set up connection

The default resolution of the desktop when connecting from Mac using this app is small, so before connecting choose RDC/Preferences

Enter login information (first tab), Domain is shernet

Choose Display (second tab) and choose at least 1280x800

Close the Preferences window.

 

3. Make connection

Provide the Computer name: appliedresearch.sheridanc.on.ca

Click Connect (enter your Sheridan username and password if you did not enter it in Preferences)
